Description of Salted Vegetable (kiam chye)

The preserved, salted vegetable stems of mustard greens or radish leaves.

If you wish to make your own kiam chye from scratch,
this is what the fresh mustard green leaf looks like,

and here's the link containing the instructions on how to make your own kiam chye, from an enterprising gentleman living in Australia.

Kiam chye is commonly used as one of the main ingredients for soups such as "itek tim" or "kiam chye ark", which is salted vegetable and duck soup

or in "kiam chye with taufoo or tauhoo" soup, which is salted vegetable with silken toufu soup.
